Title: When Sparks Fly
Derek's head snaps up, eyes wide and scenting the evident crackle of magic in the air.
Review: This one is for anybody who loves their storytelling clever and quirky. Harry Potter and Aggybird fans will especially appreciate the world building and general monster interactions.
When Tony first inherited Stark Industries, he was flooded with paperwork that Obadiah had to walk him through, reviewing each department and what he could expect from it, each project and its progress. Among them was a yearly expedition that was run in collaboration with the Navy.

“Ouch,” Napoleon says mildly and presses two fingertips against his bleeding bottom lip. He is more curious than outraged – it’s not like he hasn’t been punched in the face by a romantic interest before, but usually it tends to happen before or after sex, not right in the middle of it.
Review: I LOVE this one. It's one of my top favorites in this fandom right now-- and that's saying a lot considering I've read pretty much everything on AO3 for this pairing so far. Merle does a great job showing the trauma which helped to make Illya the man he is now and I adore how she writes Napoleon. As another commentor said: Oh my goooodddddd, this is so traumatising and so good."
And now, a video:
Hannibal, man. It killed me.
It's been an age. Is anyone still useing you anymore? AO3 and tumblr may be where the fic is at but I miss the sense of community and dialoge oportunities that LiveJournal always gave me. Maybe it's just me but I find it's really hard to actually get to know people and make friends- beyond that silent follower stage - on other sites.
Anyway, here I am. Not dead. Posting again and I'm going to try and do that more on the regular again.
What have I missed?

Can you guys point me in the right direction?
So as it turns out USA's Graceland is the perfect show for Hawaii Five-0 fans who miss when it was good. Graceland has a lot of the same draw as H50, without most of the problems and a more serious writing style and complex cases to boot. I'm probably going to have to put together a proper pimp post for this show because it deserves more attention than it's getting and the fic writing possibilities are numerous.
Season one (and two?) of Longmire are up on Netflix instant watch right now and I powered my way through all of the episodes in two days. I actually might have to buy the newest season from iTunes because so far I'm hella impressed with this show. It reminds me of a cross between the Jesse Stone movies and Justified-- which is a winning combination for me. I especially like how many of the cases have to do with navigating local politics between the Native American and white populations and how for the most part, I feel like they do a good job with that subject matter. Admittedly, my knowledge of reservation life is pretty limited, so I'd be really interested to hear what other people think about it.
Season three of The Killing left me kind of unsatisfied. They took a chance trying to base this season around a group of people that society typically doesn't really care about (death row inmates, street kids, junkies and child prostitutes). In the show they do a fantastic job of portraying how forgettable and unimportant the rest of the world sees these kinds of people-- but the trouble with that is that the viewers never really make the jump to caring about them either. And when these entirely forgettable characters make up almost the entire cast, well that's a problem.
As for the case itself, it seemed fairly obvious to me and almost too simple in comparison to season one and two. I think The Killing does a much better job with long sweeping story lines, where they are able to develop characters and plot twists over time. This season seemed to suffer from a general lack of overarching purpose and inconsistent pacing. In turns it seemed to move too slow or too fast and had entire sections which I found to be just boring. I never made an emotional connection with many of the characters, some of whom just seemed to be there to fill space versus add anything meaningful and the plot twists mostly disappointed me.
That being said, Linden and Holder continue to be two of my favorite tv characters, hands down. Their writing and dialogue is fantastic and the chemistry between those two actors really makes the show for me.
What did the rest of you think?

“I did this,” Emma tells the ceiling. “It’s my fault Regina went dark again. I knew in my gut that she didn’t kill Archie. When I looked into her eyes, I knew she wasn’t lying. But I still let myself turn against her the first chance I had. It was selfish and stupid, and now she’s gone, and it’s my fault. And of course there was a part of me that wanted Henry all to myself, but – but so what? That was putting my interests before his. Storybrooke’s been invaded by sadistic fairytale lunatics, and you know who I really want on my kid’s side now? A badass evil witch queen."
Loved, loved. LOVED this fic. One of the things dollsome does really well is write women and her Regina is fantastic. She's like a female Loki, all haughty and clinging to her pride. It hit all the buttons for me-- and while Once Upon a Time hasn't ever been my shtick, this fic has me rethinking that. My only complaint is that it's not a million times longer.

To the GenKill gang: anyone got any new fic recs they could shoot my way? I'm missing Nate, Brad and all the rest on my reading list.

Whelp I'm enjoying another super slow night at work, listening to The Grateful Dead and watching it rain buckets outside. The weather channel issued another flood warning for my sunny section of NY and it has me worried about what I'll find when I get home.
I live on a drop off embankment and the creek behind my house has been known to jump its banks more than a few times. Not to mention how my basement likes to flood. Combining all of that together with the forecast for yet more rain over the next week has me a bit on edge.
Which is too bad, since I really love how the rain makes everything shinny and grey. It reminds me of those sweeping views of Seattle in The Killing-- which by the way, is airing season 3 right now and STILL amazing! Of you aren't watching it, then you should be. I'm convinced its one of the best shows on tv right now and like Southland, it doesn't get anywhere near the credit it deserves.
Season one and two can be streamed on Netflix instant watch right now, so a lot of you have no excuse. Watch it. Love it. Spread the word.
In the meantime, wish me luck in not being swept away by these rising waters.
Is anyone going to watch the premier of USA's new show Graceland tonight? The adds remind me a lot of season 1 Hawaii Five-0, when things were all pretty and new, so I'm wondering if I should give this one a shot. What's the peanut gallery say?
Anyways, here! Have a couple fic recs because Star Trek made my life.
Within thirty seconds of entering the planet’s atmosphere, it becomes apparent that the shuttlecraft is going to crash. Another five, and it’s clear that they’re going down over the ocean.
The point is, I need more. Lots and lots more. And I'm counting on you all to work your flist magic and direct me to all the things. Please? Pretty please?
I'm dying here.
Especially since I'm starting to worry that I've seen everything already. I've watched most of the Jane Austin movies (Pride and Prejudice with Keira Knightley, Sense and Sensibility, Emma, Mansfield Park), Michael Fassbender's Jane Eyre, Master and Commander, some of Jeeves and Wooster, what Netflix instant watch has available of Downton Abbey, The Forsyte Saga, Songcatcher, Moll Flanders, and Firelight.
Please tell me that there are more I haven't seen yet.
As for AU fanfic, I'd read Teen Wolf, The Hobbit (I think I'd actually kill for a Thilbo period drama fic), Supernatural, Star Trek (TOS or Reboot), Generation Kill, Stargate Atlantis, Veronica Mars, The Eagle, X-men First Class, Inception... um, I'm pretty sure there are others.... Like Mythbusters! Guys, I'd completely lose my shit over a Mythbusters period drama fic. Does that exist? Because I think it needs to. Just, gah, think of all the possibilities! Maybe it'd have something to do with experimenting with Tesla's alternating current or, or the natural sciences and you know there would have to be some kind of explosion involved. And Jamie in a waistcoat. A waistcoat people. This is a thing that should happen. Someone needs to get on this.
Anyway, yes. All and any recs would be very welcome.

This is going to be a continual work in progress, so I'll update as I find more drool worthy threads.
Most plus sized girls will already know about Lane Bryant and Torrid and of course, the problems that go along with them. While both might supply some great clothes and shoes, Lane can be notoriously expensive and some of torrid's things, of shoddy quality. But fear not! There are other resources out there.
I was literally over the moon when I found out that Forever 21 sells plus sized clothes up to a size 3X. Most Forever 21 stores don't have a plus sized section but you can do a search for one close to you or just shop directly from the website. They feature a very specific sense of style- it's all peter pan collars, button ups and blazers all the time- and I feaking love it.
The best part? The most expensive thing in the store will still cost under $70. Anyone who regularly shops at Lane Bryant with their $90+ dresses will understand what I'm talking about when I tell you I almost broke into a dance on my last shopping trip when I picked up a dress for only $20 and a green pencil skirt for $10. And they weren't even on sale.
On the down side, Forever 21 is all about layering so a lot of their clothes are made out of extra thin material and can be sheer or more see-through than the pictures on the website might suggest. Their sizes also run a bit small. I'm normally a 2X or 20/22 but their 3X ended up fitting me a lot better. Keep in mind that you might want to go for a size larger than you normally wear if you end up ordering clothes from them online.
A home for all things super comfortable and casual classy up to a size 5X. I've bought things a number of times from CJ Banks now and have never been unhappy with their quality or service. Their sizes run a bit large actually (which is always nice for anyone's ego) and they make doing returns fairly painless.
Prices run more typical to most stores with blouses around $45 but they do great sales pretty much all the time and are constantly adding things to clearance.
Looking for a place to get that Mad Men look in a plus size? Try ModCloth.com which carries clothes up to a size 22 (which they call a 4X for some reason, bleh).
I haven't tried ordering anything from modcloth yet, mostly due to the high prices since a dress from them can run anywhere between $70-$200 but I hear that if you catch them at the right time, you can get things on sale or through clearance in plus sizes.
Customized clothes, made specially for your size, shape and style - and at prices you can afford! EShakti is awesome! They sell tops, dresses and skirts in all sizes up to a 6X or 36W.
Basically, you pick a style dress, skirt or top in a fabric you like and then you get to customize it as you like. Change the length, neck line, or sleeves to however you like and they do all of this for about the same price as you would spend buying straight off the rack. Dresses are mostly under $100, tops ~$50 and skirts anywhere from $45- $80.
While you couldn't call eShakti exactly cheap, they do have sales and even if you pay full price, buying something that's been customized to you makes it hurt a lot less. Plus they have a large range in styles, all of which are beautiful.
The next chance I get, I'll be ordering something from them.
Check back for more later!

I finally managed to cut down all of my icons to only 15 in prep for my paid account expiring in like the next three days. Those of you who know me will understand that this was a painful, painful process. I hacked and slashed and cried more than a few tears but I succeeded in the end. However, ALL of my Sherlock icons ended up being scattered to the internet winds in the process which seems so wrong since how can one livejournal without a Sherlock icon? And I had so many.
I guess I'll just have to make it up by posting about Sherlock related stuff a lot more often.
With that in mind, I'm just going to leave this here...

On the up side, you can all expect a heaping ton of Hobbit fic recs to come since I seem to be incapable of reading anything that isn't Hobbit or Mass Effect related right now.
(And can we just take a minute to talk about how much I love all things having to do with the line of Durin? Because God, Thorin. I have feels for him. It's kinda inappropriate. My hair may or may not be sporting little braids at this very moment.)
On the down side, that means I'm in need of MORE hobbity things, so! Does anyone know where I can get my hands on the soundtrack or ebooks? I have the books in very bookish form but I'd like to read them on my ipod.
Please and thank you.
Proper updates are all pending like but are on the way. Promise.
